The Summer School on Public International Law

Sir Michael Wood is a member of the UN International Law Commission where he has recently finished his work as a Special Rapporteur on Identification of customary international law. He is a Senior Fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, University of Cambridge. He is a barrister at Twenty Essex Chambers, London, where he practices in the field of public international law, including many cases before international courts and tribunals. He was Legal Adviser to the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office between 1999 and 2006, having joined as an Assistant Legal Adviser in 1970. Sir Michael Wood is the author of numerous books and articles on diverse topics of public international law.

Prof. Dr. Cedric Ryngaert is Chair of Public International Law at Utrecht University (Netherlands) and Head of the Department of International and European Law of the University’s Law School. Among other publications, he authored Jurisdiction in International Law, Jurisdiction over Antitrust Violations in International Law, and Selfless Intervention: The Exercise of Jurisdiction in the Common Interest (forthcoming OUP 2020). In 2012, Prof. Ryngaert obtained the Prix Henri Rolin for his work on jurisdiction. He was co-rapporteur of the International Law Association’s Committee on Non-State Actors in 2007-2014. Currently he is an editor of the Netherlands International Law Review and the Utrecht Law Review. Earlier, Prof. Ryngaert was Associate Professor of International Law at Leuven University, project leader of an international research community on non-state actors, and he was involved in two EU COST actions. He has also taught international law at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels.

Alina Miron is a Professor at the University of Angers. She has a doctorate degree in public international law. She has also acted as counsel and advocate for different States before the International Court of Justice, International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), European Court of Justice and Arbitral Tribunals. Professor Miron is a Member of the European Society of International Law, International Law Association, Réseau Francophone de Droit International and various juries of Moot competitions. She is the author of several books and numerous publications.

Philippa Webb is Professor of Public International Law at King's College London. She is also a barrister at Twenty Essex Chambers in London. She is a specialist in public international law and represents states, companies and individuals in domestic and international courts, including the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the European Court of Human Rights and the Supreme Court of United Kingdom. Previously, Professor Webb held positions as Special Assistant and Legal Officer to the President of the International Court of Justice, legal adviser to the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court, and associate officer in United Nations Headquarters in New York. Her publications include “Oppenheim's International Law: United Nations” (with Dame Rosalyn Higgins GBE QC, Dapo Akande, Sandesh Sivamuaran and James Sloan; awarded the ASIL Certificate of Merit 2018), “The Law of State Immunity” (with Lady Hazel Fox QC), and “International Judicial Integration and Fragmentation”. She is on the Board of the European Society of International Law.

Manfred Dauster was appointed the Presiding Judge at Bavarian Supreme Court (appellate division in criminal matters) in 2019. Before that, he served as the Presiding Judge at High Court of Appeal Munich (appellate and first instance division in criminal matters) and took other positions of a judge at different courts in Munich. He also served as the Judge at State Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (appellate division: war and organized crimes) (2005-2007) and worked at the Office of the High Representative Sarajevo/Bosnia and Herzegovina (Anti-Fraud) (2000-2002). Judge Dauster has PhD in Constitutional Law. He is a Member of Institute of Economic, International and European Criminal Law at University of Saarland/Saarbrücken.

Roman Kolodkin was elected judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in October 2017. Before that, he served as the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (2009-2015). He also was Director of the Legal Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in 2001-2009 and 2015-2017. He was a Member of the UN International Law Commission in 2003-2011, 2015-2018. Roman Kolodkin is an Associate Member of the Institute of International Law. Since 2017, he also takes the position of Director of Public International Law Studies at the International and Comparative Law Research Center.
