On October 18-22, the ICLRC participated as the observer in the session of the UNCITRAL Working Group VI considering the Draft Instrument on Judicial Sale of Ships.
The document is intended to solve the problem of excluding a vessel from the ship registry of one State, if the judicial sale was conducted in another State.
The Center was presented by Igor Yastrzhembsky. He spoke about the necessity of clarifying some definitions such as "clean title" and "person". He also paid attention that, for the Russian Federation, it would be useful to legalize or apostille the certificate of judicial sale of ship, ensure the mechanism of transferring the right of purchaser, assign the value of such certificate as a sufficient evidence used to confirm the sale transaction and ownership of the purchaser.
Some of these proposals received support from the delegations of other States and organizations and were included in the Draft.
